This isn’t just another dungeon crawl. Oath to Embers fuses tactical gameplay, cinematic storytelling, and a deeply customizable combat system into one unforgettable experience.
Card Combo System
Each Hero builds combos using a unique deck of two-sided Action cards. You spend Energy to play cards, triggering their Main abilities. By linking cards together, you generate resources like Pace, Vigor, and Insight by matching symbols. These resources fuel extra actions, making every turn becomes a puzzle of timing and synergy, giving you full control over how you fight.

In Oath to Embers, every Encounter unfolds on a shared board using character cards with unique abilities and roles. Positioning is crucial. Where you place your heroes affects their attacks, defenses, and how they interact with the enemy.
Each round, the Battleflux cards rotate, changing how the battlefield behaves. Every character in that row is affected, creating dynamic shifts that force players to adapt and think ahead.
The board layout is clear and easy to follow, so you can always see what’s happening. But beneath that clarity is a deep, evolving combat system that rewards strategy, timing, and cooperation.

Fate Deck: Predictable, Tactical Risk
Instead of dice, Oath to Embers uses a Fate Deck to resolve attacks, defenses, and special abilities. You can track the discard pile to see what’s already been played. That means the more you watch, the better you can predict what’s coming. Plan ahead. Know when to hold back, and when to go all in.
Abilities like Concentrate and Distract let you tilt the odds even further. Draw two and choose the better card, or force enemies to take the worse one. This is risk you can read, not just roll.
What makes Oath to Embers so Unique?
More Strategy, Less RNG
As a gamer, I've had my fill of randomness. Too many games rely on the luck of the dice, where the outcome feels more like it's out of my control than a result of my strategic decisions. In creating "Oath to Embers," my aim was to pivot away from this norm.
I envisioned a game where success or failure hinges not on sheer chance but on player skill and decision-making. If I lose, I want to understand why, and if I win, I want to earn it, not just stumble into victory.
A Story that Shapes you
Traditional RPGs often boil down to a cycle: fight, gain XP, level up, repeat. Interaction typically revolves around transactional quests that offer little in terms of character development. But what if the choices you make in a game change your character in meaningful ways? Not just through the acquisition of gold or XP, but through experiences and memories that shape the character based on their struggles, past traumas, and moral dilemmas. "Oath to Embers" aims to tell such stories, where personal growth is as integral as any physical reward.
Gaming When It's Not Your Turn
We've all seen it: players disengage from the game the moment their turn ends, often retreating to their phones. To combat this, "Oath to Embers" ensures that even when it's not your turn, you're actively involved. Every card in your hand is part of a puzzle that everyone can see and contribute to solving. This mechanic not only keeps everyone engaged but also emphasizes teamwork; if one hero falls, the whole team loses. This design has proven to keep players engaged, and with over 2000 hours of playtesting where there was never a dull moment.
